Red River Matchup: OU Running Back Vs. UT Linebackers

Rashad BobinoAdrian Peterson is arguably the best running back in the nation, so you might think it would be obvious that they have the edge in this matchup. But as Lee Corso would say, "Not so fast my friend." The Texas linebacking core is probably the fastest it has ever been. Rashad Bobino leads them at middle linebacker, finally in his true position after being misplaced at outside linebacker last year. Robert Killebrew is starting to turn his season around after a slow start and Scott Derry is doing an outstanding job in replacing Roddrick Muckleyroy who is out for the year with a hand injury. And when you talk about potential, look no further than Sergio Kindle. True freshman Kindle led the team in tackles last week with 9 and has the speed and size to be one of the top linebackers in the nation.

As for Adrian Peterson, he is the work horse for this Oklahoma team. He is averaging nearly 30 rushing attempts and 160.8 yards per game. He has ran for over 100 yards in every game this season, including 211 against Oregon. And it is hard to forget his performance as freshman two years ago, where he went off for 225 yards against Texas. The only downside I see here is that OU may be using Peterson too much, possibly wearing him out during a long season.

So there we have it, Adrian Peterson, the best running back in the nation, versus the speedy Texas linebackers. This is a tought call, but I am going to have to give a slight edge to OU in this matchup.
